In Monday’s report; a missile attack on Crimea killed 4 people and injured over 150, a coordinated attack on churches and a synagogue in the Dagestan region of Russia, more Israeli air strikes in Gaza, a hiker found alive AND a hiker found dead in California.

NOTES/UPDATES: 

• I thought my report on the missiles being shot down over Sevastopol in Russia was pretty succinct, but some of the comments made me feel like it wasn’t as clear as I’d hoped… So to clarify, Ukraine shot missiles (provided by the US) at Crimea. The Russian military was able to shoot down all of them in a way that did not cause debris to land in any civilian areas… except 1.

• A low quality video was released of the missile debris falling onto the beach, you can watch it here:

• At the time of my reporting on the organized attacks on churches and a synagogue in the Dagestan Region of Russia, the death toll was around 7… it has since tripled to around 21. 16 of them were police officers. And the number of people injured also increased to 46.

• There was an eye witness video taken by someone from their apartment window depicting a shootout between some of the attackers and police. It doesn’t show much, but you can watch it here:

• There are only pictures from when the missing hiker was reunited with his family after missing for 10 days… and he did one interview which was used by basically every news outlet. I tried to find a video with the least amount of editorial. You can watch it here:

• As for the hiker that was found dead… perhaps it was only because they happened on the same day, but most of the reports I read then made it seem like she was found during the search for the guy above… but now that there are some more complete reports… it seems like there had been a separate search for her. The quickest summary video can be seen here:

On Tuesday I reported on a woman being arrested in Minnesota after a dead body was found in her following an accident (the death was not related to the crash). China’s space probe returning with samples from the far side of the moon. Brazil’s Supreme Court decriminalizing marijuana for personal possession and use (though this had to be cut from the TikTok version). Israel’s Supreme Court ruling that even Ultra-Orthodox Jews must be subject to the country’s military draft. And the anti-tax bill protests in Kenya turning deadly.

NOTES/UPDATES: 

• Ok… the dead body found in a car after an accident in Minnesota story has spiraled out of control. It seems that both the driver in the “accident” and the deceased victim are both ex-lovers and transgender. That’s not a detail I saw in many reports, but a number of LGBTQ advocacy groups have commented on this specific story so it seems worth mentioning. I put “accident” in quotes because more details have released, and it seems it was a single-car accident, no other cars involved, and police found the driver sitting in a lawn chair nearby when they arrived. The body in the back was wrapped in blankets and a tarp and had a puncture wound in the neck. The car belonged to the victim, who was from Minneapolis and when police searched their apartment, they found a bloody scene.
