The F*ckin' Newsletter: August 26 - September 1, 2024
Welcome to The F*ckin’ Newsletter. I’m your host Kellerman, and a lot of sh*t happened this week. Here are some updates and more details.
Another week of bullsh*t… Sudan, Kenya, Indonesia, Darfur, Russia, Ukraine, Kharkiv, Brazil, France, Israel, The West Bank, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Japan, Venezuela, Namibia, Greece, and in the United States: Colorado all made the F*ckin’ News. Watch it all in this week’s round-up below:
MONDAY, AUGUST 26 (Click here to watch on TikTok)
Monday’s report covered the Arbaat Dam bursting in Sudan, 13 prisoners escaping custody in Kenya and the subsequent police arrests, deadly flash flooding in Indonesia, humanitarian aid be let back into Darfur after a 6 month border lockdown, and a massive Russian missile bombardment on Ukraine’s power grid.
NOTES/UPDATES:
The Arbaat Dam numbers have been updated to between 30-60 dead (differing reports) 118,000 displaced, and 300,000 affected nationwide.
Other than the 8 officers being arrested for aiding in the prisoners’ escape in Kenya… I can’t find any updates on this so… that’s not good.
The final body has been recovered from the Indonesia flooding… totaling 19 dead. Over 70 homes were affected, and over 240 people are still currently sheltering in a school. And I think, though these numbers are not as huge as some of the others I report… that this is actually pretty catastrophic because this was not the result a dam bursting or excessive cloud seeding or something… this was just a totally random heavy storm that cause a flash flood!
Aid trucks are rolling into Darfur (59 in the past 48 hours) bringing aid to a little over 100,000 people. Keep in mind… half the country - around 26,000,000 people require aid in Sudan. With 10,000,000 of those displaced by violent civil war.
And Russia’s bombardment of Ukraine continued through the week. The Telegraph posted a video of some of the aftermath of this first attack with little commenteary:

TUESDAY, AUGUST 27 (Click here to watch on TikTok)
On Tuesday I reported on the fires in Brazil, Donald Trump being indicted again in the election interference trial, the Telegram CEO being arrested for neglecting the app’s use for elicit conduct, Israel conducting a preemptive strike on missile-launching sites in Lebanon, Hezbollah’s retaliation, France’s president refusing to approve a new Prime Minister, and the Taliban passing new vice and virtue laws that prohibit women from speaking outside their homes.
NOTES/UPDATES:
I accidentally discovered that if I put my head down in front of the camera, I disappear completely… making me appear magically when I lift my head. Here was how this episode almost opened:
There were 28,697 fires reported in the Amazon region in August alone, which is a WHOPPING 38% higher than the 10-year average. France 24 made a pretty good, quick round-up of the smoke in the cities, the aftermath in some of the areas the fire has moved through, and a statement by the country’s health minister:
Pavel Durov was charged with enabling illicit transactions, complicity in the distribution of child sexual abuse material, and refusing to cooperate with authorities along with a few other lesser crimes by a French Judge… before being released under judicial supervision.
The preventative attack on Hezbollah launch sites across Lebanon was quite a feat. It wasn’t just a couple bases in one area… it was a coordinated strike on hundreds of sites all over Lebanon at exactly the same time. And they did so… with seemingly no civilian casualties.
France remains without a Prime Minister, though I’ve read they are close to presenting a new candidate. Official statements from French officials can be seen here. (*Note: it sort of feels like this video is saying he rejected the Prime Minister nominee because he was of the leftist party… but I’m not so sure that’s the reason WHY, though obviously it is important background.)

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28
I took the night off to see Everything Everywhere All At Once in IMAX. I absolutely love that film, and am so happy A24 has been re-releasing their films in IMAX. What a spectacle!
THURSDAY, AUGUST 29 (Click here to watch on TikTok)
On Thursday I reported on Typhoon Shanshan making landfall in Japan, Israel’s West Bank raids, Venezuela’s renewed protests against Nicolas Maduro, and Namibia planning to cull over 700 wild animals to feed people on the brink of starvation.
NOTES/UPDATES:
AP has the best quick video of some of the damage done by Typhoon Shanshan in Japan…
Shanshan has been downgraded to a Tropical Cyclone, and the death toll has risen to 7.
