WEEKLY RECAP

Another week, another bunch of shit! Switzerland, Italy, France, Kenya, Israel, Nigeria, India, Turkey, Syria, El Salvador, the Caribbean Islands, Greece, Ethiopia, Austria, Ukraine, and in the United States: New York, Washington D.C., California, and Massachusetts all made it into the F*ckin’ News. There was a lot to report on Monday and I barely even scratched the surface: The US Supreme Court ruled on Presidential Immunity, flooding and landslides in Switzerland and Northern Italy, France’s snap election results, the updated tax riot death/injury/arrest toll in Kenya, the Ultra Orthodox protests in Israel, and a series of suicide bombings in Nigeria.

NOTES/UPDATES: 

• Looking back on this report a few days later I feel I could’ve chosen better words for this first report. (Though nobody actually called me out on it, which is surprising.) The court ruling basically means that the President can claim immunity if accused of a crime… but it doesn’t exactly mean he can just do whatever he wants and is immune from prosecution. That would be silly.

• And I was hoping to have a video of Trump’s response to the decision but he didn’t make one so you’ll just have to watch Biden’s response instead:

• The death toll from the intense storms and floods in Switzerland and Italy has risen to 7. And it had already been in process, but later in the week, Switzerland and Austria agreed to invest over $2 Billion to prevent flooding along the Rhine River.

• France will conclude it’s second elections today (July 7), and if you’re like me and didn’t quite understand how these elections work, I found a quick (extremely simplified) video summary that might help:

• The Ultra Orthodox protests have been mostly subdued by police. You can see a video of some of the protests and police response below:

• As of today, the official numbers from the tax bill protests in Kenya are 39 dead, 361 injured. President Ruto has announced a large reduction in public spending instead, slashing government spending (but also it sounds like a lot of jobs). You can see his speech here:

• The suicide bombings in Nigeria are now being referred to as “The 2024 Borno State Bombings”, though there is no update on who is responsible for the coordinated attack.

On Tuesday I reported on the deadly stampede in India, violence against Syrian refugees and business owners in Turkey, violence against Turkish officers in Syria, El Salvador’s Navy making a major nautical drug bust, Rudy Giuliani being disbarred in New York, and a new US government contract with Moderna to develop a bird flu vaccine.

NOTES/UPDATES: 

• There are still varying reports from the stampede in India, now being called the “Hathras Crush”. Some are saying between 105-116 were killed, and others are reporting as many as 121 people killed. 250,000 people had gathered at the event and apparently, the organizers only had permission to gather 80,000. Since this is an obvious contributing factor to what happened, 6 people have been arrested for the oversight.

• The violence against Syrian refugees and shop owners continues, with many Syrians afraid to out in the streets in Turkey. Al Jazeera put out some footage of the riots in Turkey as well as some of the conflict in Syria involving Turkish troops:

• Whether you believe the 2020 election was “stolen” or not… a court found that Rudy Giuliani lied repeatedly and made false claims about the election process. A few people came into my comments to say those claims had all been proven to be true but… that is not accurate. In fact, a majority of those claims have been PROVEN to be false. Still… I’m curious how many among us believe the 2020 election was stolen. (Remember, these polls are anonymous, so answer truthfully!)

• Giuliani still has 2 other upcoming court cases… one in Georgia where he’s charged with making false statements and soliciting false testimony, conspiring to create phony paperwork and asking state lawmakers to violate their oath of office to appoint an alternate slate of pro-Trump electors. And one in Arizona where he’s being charged with pressuring Maricopa County officials and state legislators to change the outcome of Arizona’s vote results.

• The bird flu vaccine is interesting… though it effects birds and livestock semi-regularly… it’s quite rare that it jumps to humans. That said, apparently the mortality rate for people get infected with bird flu is 50%! Meaning half the people who contract it die. Some countries like Finland already vaccinate against bird flu. In the United States, a lot of people get annual flu shots so it’s not so crazy to make a new one, but of course… vaccines are now a divisive hot-button topic whether they are mandated or not.

KELLERMAN’S FAVORITE COMMENTS:

I often get comments like this when I let out a sigh or give a more exhausted look at the end… so I think it’s one of the things that resonates with people about the show. Regular newscasters don’t or can’t really make those sort of… more animated emotional faces/sounds. They certainly can’t say “fuck!”

Part of the main concept for the F*ckin’ News is to be the news for people who don’t watch the news, so I love comments like this!
